BIG ot Malu Fernandez

This is for you BIG ot Malu Fernandez from an OFW with wit and common sense.

malufet

Malu Fernandez is a columnist of The Manila Standard Today who had an article in People Asia Magazine titled “From Boracay to Greece“. This article smacks of bigotry, discrimination and elitist view of OFW’s “being trapped like a sardine in a sardine can with all these OFWs smelling of AXE and Charlie cologne while Jo Malone evaporated into thin air.

In her response, she claimed that “the magazine got a few e-mails from people who didn’t get the meaning of my acerbic wit.

Malu Fernandez is an unknown entity (in the net) until bloggers took notice of her bigotry. Google does not show any informations of who she is except now; all of which are from posts of Pinoy bloggers who are mad about her insensitivity and stupid view of OFW’s.

myepinoy says, Maraming salamat. Social responsibility ba o OFW angst. LOL

What’s it all about, mye? I will read the links … later. :)

myepinoy says, just google the name of the woman and you’ll have the answer. LOL

  6. 6 bw August 20, 2007 at 9:19 pm

Hmm.. she’s trying to pull a Rosie O’Donnel stunt in my opinion… and she in fact looks like one – a fat biyatch like Rosie :)

  7. 7 Jayred August 20, 2007 at 10:49 pm

Mr. myepinoy, and puso po ninyo….:-)

Seriously, she’s trying to be funny at the expense of hard-working OFWs all over the world. It’s the kind of (wicked) humor people like her — i.e. moneyed and shallow — love.

I’ve met a lot of Malu Fernandez types in school and at work. And frankly speaking, I don’t care what they think. So I wonder why people are giving her the time of day. Waste of time, if you ask me.

myepinoy says, Trying to be funny at our expense (OFW’s) is her biggest mistake. Sometimes I wonder, could this be a ploy to get a good internet presence without paying for SEO experts.

Aside from ignoring the lady, what do you think is the best way to handle this type of controversy or where is the right channel to file a complaint aside from writing a letter to the editor?

Grabe!Filipino ba sya?

    Fellow OFW’s,

Let us not dignify the article of this idiot relative to her article degrading OFW’s around the world. Obviously there is no help for everyone reading it, instead of a stressful feeling. Practically she doesn’t give a rat’s ass on OFW’s, then why should we on her? It’s just sad that a supposed educated being thought as low—life as her. Let’s ignore her because she doesn’t deserve a rat’s ass equally.

Here is the reply of Malu Fernandez

Understandably, The Manila Standard Today, received a few emails of complaint, so Malu Fernandez decided to respond.

As I type this, I’d like you to know that it’s not about whining, complaining and bitching but just stating the facts. Just recently, I wrote a funny article in my magazine column and my friends thought it was hilarious. It was humorous and quite tongue-in-cheek, or at least I thought so, until the magazine got a few e-mails from people who didn’t get the meaning of my acerbic wit. The bottom line was just that I had offended the reader’s socioeconomic background. If any of these people actually read anything thicker then a magazine they would find it very funny. Most people don’t get the fact that they need bitches like me to shake up their world, otherwise their lives would be boring and mediocre. I obviously write for the a certain target audience and if what I write offends you, just stop reading.

Although it may sound elitist to you the fact is this country is built on the foundation of haves, have-nots and wannabes. One group will never get the culture of the other. Although I could mention that it is easier to understand someone who has a lower socioeconomic background that would entail a whole other page and frankly I don’t want to be someone to bridge the gap between socioeconomic classes. I leave that to the politicians in my family who believe they can actually help. Now I seriously ask you, am I being a diva or are people around me just lacking in common sense? Perhaps it’s a little of both!

its not right to call malu a pig. its a huge insult to pigs. pigs are intelligent animals. obviously malu has shit for brains.

    Diva raw sya? Lufet..

Pede rin. Peeps, we gotta admit, DIVA nga siya..

SWINE DIVA OF ASIA.. malufet di ba? Fits perfectly well with her looks and attitude.. hehehe..

  15. 15 David August 23, 2007 at 10:02 am

I just saw the article today and I must say it is absolutely poor journalism. People Asia is a very reputable and respected magazine and they must take responsibility for this poor write up. I work as a Marketing Manager for one of the most respected media and publishing company here in Australia and this kind of content is utterly disgusting. Not to mention very badly written. This article should have been placed in the local tabloid papers.

I not only hold Ms. Fernandez responsible, I hold the Editor responsible for approving the story as well.

Being a Filipino, I am surprised that some “kapwa Pinoys” are still brainless on the value of the OFW’s. They are the unsung hero of our country and I believe every one of them should be placed on a pedestal.

Given that this material was created by a novice writer, I still believe we should not ridicule nor attack the character of a person based on one mistake or lapse in judgement. We should though concentrate and focus on the kind of work she has done and the repercussions of her actions towards what was written and published.

Professionally and diplomatically speaking, People Asia should really present a public apology. Unless such article stories are within their editorial policies. Being a responsible media publication, they should address this concern with the same professionalism we expect them to have.

Personally, I think the Editor, together with Ms. Fernandez should be sacked for pure, 100%, Unsaturated negligence and lack of common sense.

Mabuhay po ang lahat ng OFW’s!

  16. 17 Vince August 23, 2007 at 11:05 am

I agree with David on this. I believe the editor should share the blame equally with her.

I am a Filipino and I will admit, there are a lot of things I would like to change but I would never, ever say anything like this.

I am also an aspiring writer but never have I found a tasteless article such as this.

I will also admit that at times I have been an elitist myself, I have run with this crowd as well. I pray that you do not liken them to someone like her, she is indeed a wannabe that is trying to drop brand names and popular people in the hopes of becoming closer to anyone of them.

As a Filipino I am outraged at what she has said about the OFWs who have saved the Philippines time and time again. As an aspiring writer I am disgusted at the fact that someone like that is actually writing for a magazine. As a person I am saddened that there is someone this stupid and tactless.

I hope that this will teach her not to take the people so lightly.

all i can say is, Malu Frenandez you can go to hell!!!!!

  18. 19 ysa August 23, 2007 at 11:45 am

    She deserves a gift… a lifesize mirror…

To show her the reality that she was trying to avoid by being pretentious enough.

  19. 20 papaya August 23, 2007 at 3:16 pm

People like her are disturbed. she has issues–insecurities.
It’s so sad that her manner of trying to elevate herself in the society is by pulling other people down.
Whats more sad is, pangit na nga cya, wala pang breeding. She’s gonna be forever cheap and ugly with what she did.

  20. 21 COGS August 23, 2007 at 3:17 pm

Malu’s article is not about her great, extravagant, luxurious and pampered summer vacation. It’s about her vainest self and her desperate attempt to be called “elite”.

Too bad! It didn’t work. Better luck next time, Malu.

” I obviously write for the a certain target audience and if what I write offends you, just stop reading.”

Ooopppps! I forgot. I’ll take your advice – I will stop reading anything you write.

  21. 22 Vera-mae August 23, 2007 at 3:29 pm

You’re such a waste of time malu fernandez, whoever you are… dapat sayo ibaon ng buhay!

  22. 23 Mel August 23, 2007 at 4:03 pm

Malu, I won’t be surprised if someone will throw eggs on you face in one of your flights ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. Worst, someone will spit on your face, you’ll never know. So, never take a sleeping pill while on flight. Remember, we OFWs are all over the world.

Who cares if you have tendered your resignation. You have insulted the OFW communities and not your employer. You’ve created a nightmare for your irresponsible and very unprofessional journalism.

    Your doomed.

  23. 24 kövic August 23, 2007 at 4:19 pm

  25. 26 anonymousSOA August 23, 2007 at 4:31 pm

There is a saying in Filipino, “Damitan mo man ang matsing, ay matsing pa rin.” I am surprised that she has the nerve to write these entire “elitist” or should I say “bigoted” remarks against OFW’s. Look at her, this damn fat woman, she is really ugly even with the 17kg make-up. I don’t know about you people, but for me, I am more repulsed to see an ugly, fat woman who pretends to be high and mighty than those people who are only noisy and smell with cheap perfume. I suspect that she is not getting any, since she is on vacation with her “buddy”. Right, Buddy Ron? I bet even if she gets undressed in front of you, your dick would never “rise.” lol. Fuckin bitch. The only thing that makes me thank God (yes, I also thank God), is that this hag would die alone since she’s so fat and ugly (not only “outside” but also “inside”–imagine those excess fat), and the only sexual gratification she would get is through her dildo. Don’t be fooled that she is rich since if she had the money, then just ask yourself, why in world, didn’t she go for cosmetic surgery– at least liposuction? So, I strongly believe that she is really a he (a she-male), a transvestite if you might say, as she is quite good in pretending. Pretending to be a “diva.” Pretending to be God-fearing. Pretending to be a Filipino.

  26. 27 concerned OFW August 23, 2007 at 5:05 pm

Malu – in your attempt to be funny, fabulous and fierceful you have hurt so many Filipinos in the process. In your attempt to sound posh and elite you have only highlighted your insecurities. I feel sorry for you that you have reached to that level of your career but have not polished yourself. Don’t we all become better individulas as we grow more mature? Clearly your life’s journey has been shallow. You think so highly of yourself that you don’t want to be surrounded by OFW….. how could you reach that age with a such ill judgments? In your attempt to put yourself high above everyone else you have just crushed your own self. Such superficial character is not acceptable at all to anyone. What have you done to your life now? You might want to change your identity/passport …… or perhpas not travel anymore at all?? OFWs are everywhere and not everyone can easily forget.

Take this time to study yourself and what success has done to you. You have been corrupted in your mind, heart and soul. ‘Life gives you back what you give to life’.

It’s really a big challenge for use Filipinos working abroad to gain full confidence and respect from the international community. We are trying doubly hard to prove that we Filipinos are at par with the rest of the talents of the world… and here you are degrading your own. You must have been doing a lot of wrongs in your life, this is your wake up call now – Change and astrive to become a better person, a better fellow Filipino.

  27. 28 Paul Padilla August 23, 2007 at 5:12 pm

    Putangina mo Malu fernandez!

  31. 32 Sean Patrick of NYC August 23, 2007 at 5:41 pm

maikwento ko lang sa inyo na minsan nagsimba ako sa greenhills, San juan,M.M. there is this lady around her 50s sitting infront of me with her family(mukhang mayaman), on the left side of the chair is a space that can occupy atleast 3 people, and then young lady on her mid 20s(maitim, yung typical na flipino na kasambahay na nagtatrabaho dun sa greenhills)wants to sit on the same chair where the lady is sitting. nung paupo na yung babae sabe sa kanya ng matandang babae “may naka-upo na dyan”. i was so surprise kase matagal na kaming nakaupo dun and wala naman dumadating na family nya and besides kumpleto na ang familia nya dun. the whole mass ang nakaupo lang dun sa space ng chair ay Louis Vuitton bag nya! Can you Imagine that sa Simbahan pa nangyari yan!!!!

kaya alam nyong mga kababayan ko! maraming Malu Fernandez dun sa Pilipinas ang malakas mag-discriminate at mang-lait ng mga naghihirap na pinoy at OFW. i really despise those kind of filipinos!!!

it is sad but very true!!!!!!!!!!!

  35. 36 youradviser August 23, 2007 at 7:12 pm

After I read about comments on Malu Fernandez and her disparaging article, I just had to look at how she looks:

I am not an OFW. Although I am blessed with parents who can afford to send me to a U.S. university, my heart bleeds for every Filipino who has to leave his or her family behind to earn a decent living because of irresponsible people in our government. We do not need another irresponsible pinoy to add more burden to what is now very obvious. Malu is ignorant that it’s the OFWs’ $12 Billion a year that is keeping the Philippine economy afloat. I guess she dishes out uncalled for insults against her fellow pinoys because she also has been insulted. From how she looks, I can now understand. I just had to see because most of my friends in the Philippines surnamed “Fernandez” are good looking. However, the probable psychological trauma of being fat is not an excuse to malign other people’s social status. Not all rich people are like her. I am sure her clan does not belong to the top 10 riches pinoys. Real rich people do not have to insult another social class’ misfortune to prove they are rich. She is a concrete example that money does not buy breeding or class.

  36. 37 MALU WANG August 23, 2007 at 7:48 pm

ang chaka mo malu! kala mo ang ganda mo??? ano ba pabango mo at ke yabang yabang mo? first time mo lang siguro gumamit ng mamahalin na pabango nag inarte kana! yan ang hirap sa pasosyal eh! MAG DIET ka muna…MUKHA KANG BABOY!

    BAKIT KA NAGKA-GANYAN?
(A reaction to an alarming article)

    To you and your publisher:

    - Hindi ko alam kung ano ang na contribute niya sa Pilipinas o sa kapwa Pinoy…para makapag salita siya ng ganyan..

    - Kung ang purpose ng article na ito at para sirain ang Pinoy…magaling, magaling! Effective…pero kung di para duon…para kaya saan? At pinayagan pa na ma- publish ng isang kilalang kumpanya…

    - dapat ma-senate inquiry yan! (Dear Senator Cheez Escudero/Ace Barbers, FYI. Jeff Ramos po ito yung author ng “I Know What To Do! PinoySuccessHandbook; President of SuccessfulPinoyAko Training Solutions; former employee of the House of Rep., Congress. Paki silip naman nito. Just imagine, “they” are making a mockery of the OFWs!)

    - I am calling to all Kababayans – maging OFWs kayo o hindi – as long as you believe in the Spirit of the Pinoys – the real successful Pinoys…react to this article…

    - I suggest you read my book….maraming maling grammar dun..maraming maling spelling na puwede mong kutyain .. ..pero walang maling paninira sa kapwa Pinoy! (It is available in all bookstore nationwide – National Bookstore, Fully Booked, PowerBooks, etc. It is in Dubai , Hongkong , Canada , and very soon around the globe..reaching the Pinoy OFWs with the advocacy of MOTIVATING FILIPINOS.

    - Read the part on corruption…kung paano ‘wag ma-corrupt ng iyong tagumpay. Kasi sa dila mo kayang kaya mong manunog ng bahay at pangarap – lalo na ng isang bahay na pinaghirapan ng isang OFW;

    - Naiisip ko tuloy kung saan ka nanggaling..kung rich ka ba talaga? Kung paano ka pinalaki, saan ka nag aral, etc. – still you need to read the book…kasi wala ka pa ring “K” na sabihing successful! Kung maayos lahat ang mga ito, bakit ka nagka-ganyan? (Sabi nga ng kanta ni Freddie Aguilar – uy, baduy ba? Di mo pedeng kutyain si Ka Freddie, malaki ang nai-contribute nun sa Musikang Pinoy at isa yung Successful Pinoy;

    - Tunay ka bang Pinoy? (Kung sakaling magbago ka.. sana ngayon na…kasi sa klase ng mga pananalita mo at sa suportang nakukuha mo sa isang malaking kumpanya…marami kang kayang siraing tao kaysa maging tagapag buo) Hindi pa huli ang lahat…magbago ka. Gamitin mo ang iyong “talento” sa pag buo; yung sinasabi mong “galing” mo, gamitin mo sa tama..may tamang paraan..hanapin mo lang.

    - It is not too late…..KUNG IYAN MAN ANG STILO MO SA PAGSUSULAT YOU CAN DO IT BETTER. AT KUNG TUNAY NA GUSTO MONG MAGING CATALYST, THERE IS A BETTER WAY . BALIKTARIN MO KAYA…MAGANDA ANG UNAHIN MO..AT PALABASIN MO ANG KAPANGITAN NA HUWAG DAPAT TULARAN.

Did she really set put her fat thigh and arms here in Greece? Oh well we should really understand her, because she probably been through a lot of psychological kicked when she was a child, as I looked at her photos I feel sad, her fake hair colour and unwanted fat body can really give here mind a sort of ignorant, socialite like her don’t really have partnet or good parents to guide them through life. Her families must be really proud of her, as she blossomed into a fuly grown ignorant and uncivilized whatever (i was going to use human being but she is not one of us, even the word ‘animal” is not the right name to use)

  43. 44 Neil August 24, 2007 at 1:10 am

Read this please. It’s an outrage. Malu Fernandez should be fired from her job or else there should be a protest and a boycott of Manila Standard. Advertisers should be pressed to pull out from it. Hit them with their pockets.

How can we improve our country if our very own people look down on us?

She is Miss Piggy in disguise. Have you seen her picture? Alahas niya, designer clothes, bags and expensive perfume?

    Malu,

My advice for you is to have liposuction and facial plastic surgery to hide your identity because your life is in danger. Have a food taster when you go out to eat, watch your back. You only have yourself to blame for this living nightmare.
