Saudi Stock Market is down again today

Today, October 31, 2006, the Tadawul All Shares Index (TASI) is down again by 335.97 points. This is the second day of free-fall.

As if the market is celebrating the Halloween, many investors get the trick but without a treat.

The trick is that the market just falls down without any basis or logical explanation at all. Many of the factors that normally affect the market are all excellent: the Saudi economy is in excellent condition, world oil prices are stable, cash surplus in billion riyals, the government is politically stable and perhaps 99% of these companies are recording tremendous growth.

The treat is that the market is going down and many investors are losing money.

I can not help but suspect that ghosts really exist in this market. Ghosts who sit in an exclusive place with billions of money to spare and vast resources to use, in creating a trick — a false perception that market is bad. It really tricks the mortal investors. The worst thing here is that it scares him to the bone! The result is a sell-off.

The mortal investors get the trick and are tricked but no treat.

If my suspicion is right then, those ghosts really have a good treat.

And oh, this is really getting to my nerves and to my pocket. Aray ko! (is it “Ouch!“?) Arrg!

Tadawul All Shares Index as of 31 October 2006

The question is, sino ang bibitaw at magbebenta ng malaking lugi (who will snap and sell with a huge loss).

Who me? No! Not yet! Not now! Not yet. Maybe! I do not know!

This is one of those days.

They say that “A picture is worth a thousand words“. To most investors of local equity market here in Saudi Arabia, this picture is worth more than a million riyals.

Red is also the worst color of the day for most of them.

The Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) is down by 473.99 points.

Frankly speaking, this is one of those days that you wish you are out of the market with the powerful cash inside your pocket or account rather than shares of stock. In time like this, patience is a virtue, hoping for the best is a great medicine for stress and anxiety and, heart and nerves of steel are what you need to keep you out of the rooftop.

Please do not ask me what is the color I dislike today. I will not answer you.

If you are interested to know what I want to do this time, my answer is: I want to go home now and sleep early.

I could only wish that tomorrow everything will be in green – the up arrow and the figure besides it. Yes, I want them green, very badly.

Who cares about you?

I thought of this last night. I do not know if this is a joke or a satire. I have no idea whether this is funny or it is the opposite — I will get the ire of some women who will read this instead.

Whatever this might be, whether you laugh or you hate me, there is only one way to find out. That is, to share this story with you here. Besides, many of the posts that I am keeping on hold are mostly rants. So I guess this is much better (???).

Here it goes.

The husband and the wife were talking before going to sleep.

Wife: Who cares about me?
Husband: You Do.
Wife: Who cares about you?
Husband: You do.

The wife somewhat irritated from the husband’s reply, got out of bed and off to the bathroom, she went. She never expected that her husband would say that. “OMG, after all these years, he never told me that he cared about me ha! He will see.” she murmured.

While trying to keep her temper from rising, she looked at the mirror and saw herself. “Gosh, I was never this beautiful before. Yeah, I looked terrible when I married him.” With that, she calmed down a bit. Thoughts came rushing to her brain cells.

Who cares about me: I DO.
Who has his fortune: I DO.
Who spends his money: I DO.
Who cares about him: I DO.

Oh yes, I DO!

Minutes later, she came out of the bathroom happy and singing. She went back to bed and whispered softy to her husband’s ear.

Wife: Honey, I do really care about you.
Husband: I told you, you do.

If you find this funny or interesting and you find me, I’ll buy you a diamond ring. Is this fair enough?

What do you think?

Shades of my past and other things

The other day, I met and had a chance to talk to an old time friend and officemate. We used to work in the same bank in the Philippines. He was my partner in crime in discovering life, the exciting life of being young.

How exciting was it you may ask? Just imagine being in so many places at one night. I mean, from Makati Avenue, to Pasay Road to Pasong Tamo, to Taft Avenue, inside the Ermita-Malate area, to Binondo, the long stretch of Quezon Avenue to Timog to West Avenue and the Cubao Area then Samson Road and back to Quezon City. There were nights that we end up in the beaches of Cavite, Mindoro and Batangas or somewhere in Laguna or Tagaytay.

No, we were not just hopping and roaming the city and these places; we were enjoying and passing our nights away as if it was the last night of our lives. And oh my, this was all about Jackie. Yes, it was Jackie, the super woman. (Do not ask me who Jackie is. Please refer to this.)

Ah, those were the days. The days of being young and restless.

After recalling those trips to heaven (we thought it was at that time), we suddenly get back to reality. And as we get on to serious matters about family, kids, work and everything about life as opposed to the life we knew many years then, he asked me, Pare, how do you save?

How do I save was a tough question for me to answer when I was still young and restless but since my restlessness is restrained by responsibilities, I found an answer that somehow makes this question easier to answer.

My answer to his question is another question. It is “how much do you want to save?

How do you save? How much do you want to save? Which do you think is the right question?

Here is something from Socrates quoted by Plato: The art of living easily as to money is to pitch your scale of living one degree below your means.

My thoughts, my words – trying to make sense.

If thoughts are not expressed in words, would that thoughts amount to something or mean anything? If thoughts are expressed in words but the words in those thoughts are meaningless, would that make any sense? If non-sense thoughts are expressed in meaningful words, would that make any difference?

Would the meaningful thoughts expressed in meaningful words mean something if those words are spoken to someone who does not understand, who does not want to listen or who believe otherwise (that they are non-sense, no matter what.). What those spoken words mean? Would that make any sense too?

Perhaps these thoughts that I put into words are non-sense and therefore there is no sense for me to verbalize these thoughts into questions. However, if these thoughts are not expressed in meaningful or meaningless words, how would anyone know that these thoughts have sense or no-sense at all?

These are my thoughts and my words. I am just trying to make sense.

Before you leave me, please check this song by Gary Granada titled “BAHAY (one of my favorite songs.).

Does this one make more sense? Please tell me the obvious answer to my obvious question. Ha ha ha ha.

Time

Time waits for no one. Time does not care. Time goes on with or without you. It moves forward with out regard to anyone. In seconds, minutes or hours, it takes its normal course.

Time passes by everyone. It may be well spent or wasted at will. Everything is all up to each one of us. A second lost, a minute gone by, an hour, a day, once it passed you by, you cannot claim it back. It will never return, forever.

Time could be for anyone or could be against everyone. Time hurts. Time heals. That is all in our mind. Who cares about your two minutes? Who cares about my two minutes? It is just two minutes anyway. It is just a time.

If I live forever with time or I live a 10th of a second, would that matter to anyone? Anything or everything that happens to you or to anyone of us has to do with time, but that does not mean anything to time.

A second, a minute, an hour, a day, they are only a measure or length of things that is happening, has happened and will happen to all of us. Sad or happy, good or bad, black or blue or white, dark or light, time just does not care.

It simply does not wait for anyone. It moves on. It has no end. IT IS ETERNITY, NOW.

This post is confusing. Thank you for your TIME.

I have a flu

For the first time, after more than a decade of working and living abroad, influenza got me rolling on my bed two days in a row starting Saturday. Thanks to the Doctor who prescribed me medicines that put my sick body to sleep practically all day yesterday. If it were not for those medicines, I would probably be awake the whole day, staring at the four corners of my room. At the end, I would feel lonely, isolated, and homesick.

The Doctor said I have a nasty type of Colds and Influenza. Just wondering what is that nasty influenza? Is it for a nasty person like me? Ha Ha Ha.

I learned one thing from this episode though. That no matter how well you take care of yourself to prevent sickness, sickness comes to you anytime whether you like it or not. Just like in life, many things happen because it is bound to happen whether you like it or not.

If you do not get what I am saying here, please forgive me. This is the way a sick blogger blogs.
