Efren Peñaflorida: Pinoy CNN Hero 2009

Each person has a hidden hero within, you just have to look inside you and search it in your heart, and be the hero to the next one in need.”

“… you are the change that you dream as I am the change that I dream and collectively we are the change that this world needs to be.” – Efren Peñaflorida

Efren Peñaflorida receives the 2009 CNN Hero of the Year 2009 award

You can’t be proud enough! He is not Manny Pacquiao. He is Efren Peñaflorida. He may not be the King of the ring like Manny Pacquiao but he fights with a heart, determination, grit, dignity and love for his Kababayan.

Manny may have fought for the country, as he claimed but that’s too far to compare to what Efren did. While Manny fights for big money and fame, Efren fights the most devastating of foes, IGNORANCE.

Manny inspires Pinoy while accomplishing his task of fighting inside the ring where material benefits go to his pocket win or lose, Efren on the other hand, not only inspire,  he educates young people, pulls and raise them up from the morass.  He helps them to be a better Pinoy with no material benefits in return.

Efren Penaflorida INSPIRES people not to be famous and rich instead he gives our poor kababayans the CHANCE, the HOPE and the LIGHT to help them get  out of darkness called  Ignorance. He EMPOWERS them. In the process, they regained the DIGNITY that have been put aside or lost due to abject poverty.

Manny Pacquiao’s legacy may last forever and  boxing history books will be full of it but,  Efren Penaflorida’s legacy is written on the hearts and minds of those poor Pinoy kids he helped.

And heaven knows which legacy is far more important and worthy of great praises.

Mabuhay ka Efren. You are truly and definitely Pinoy!

So true, “Manny Pacquiao’s legacy may last forever and boxing history books will be full of it but, Efren Penaflorida’s legacy is written on the hearts and minds of those poor Pinoy kids he helped.”

“And heaven knows which legacy is far more important and worthy of great praises.”

Mabuhay ka Efren Penaflorida. You make me even prouder as Pinoy.

Here is a great young Pinoy, the real Pinoy Hero who lifts the Philippines through great and positive deeds, wala man lang pagpapahalaga.

Baligtad talaga ang takbo ng utak ng mga namumuno sa Pinas.

Amazing ! This guy ACTUALLY DID SOMETHING great and honorable for his country 🙂 My hats off to him.

I’m really happy for Efren Penaflorida (he’s a Christian educator, by the way) and his Dynamic Teen Company. He and his co-volunteers are doing something really wonderful for Pinoys in need, which our government should be doing in the first place. (They give him due recognition him only now, after his much publicized CNN Heroes victory. Ang gobyerno nga naman natin.)

Hope he will be able to build a nice learning center using the prize money he won.

May there be more Pinoys like Efren Penaflorida. Our country needs all the help it can get.

Totally agree! Efren is far more deserving a hero’s welcome they normally give to Manny Pacquiao.

He’s a great example for younger people (and older ones too, as a matter of fact.) to look up to. Granting him the Lakandula award is a great gesture indeed, but what the government needs to realize is that this young man did their jobs for them. They should be just a tad ashamed of themselves if you ask me. 🙂

By the way, I’m Chuck, I stumbled upon your blog through Google. I am helping promote a startup blog dealing with generally the same topics as yours (pinoypolitiko.blogspot.com). May I know if you’d be interested on a link exchange? If so please send me an email at pinoypolitiko@gmail.com. We’d really appreciate it. Thank you.

Doing a movie with Pacman is not a remote possibility but I guess he is a totally different animal as compared to Pac-man who loves to entertain his fans (as he said).

Also, he refused the offers for him to be a politician. Efren believed and proved that one doesn’t need to be a politician to help people. We can all help in our own little ways.

    Congratulations, indeed!

i dont know but i think efren now is taking the wrong path as ive observe theres something wrong i think he is not fulfilling his promise like ung malwakang kariton classroom parang inuuna nya pa ung panliligaw kay angel locsin i think its the whole club 8586 that must be given the award not just him… then punta pa sya sa mayon volcano to gaze at the lava parang tourist imbis na magfocus sya sa dapat nyang gawin to give unfortunate children ng verbal education ung kanyang kariton clasrum parang pang cavite city lang

  20. 21 michael January 9, 2010 at 10:27 pm

this is my message to efren… Please fulfill your promise if you really have a heart of a hero go and do what God has as youve said has told you… many children di lang dito sa cavite city is waiting for your action… God has given you all the resources you will ever need … be a real hero… a hero is someone whos selfless huli ang sarili… if you do this you will never fade…

  21. 22 michael January 14, 2010 at 1:24 am

dear efren please fullfill your promise your starting to think of yourself 1st and that is not an heroic doing… set a true example set a good example fullfill your big plans for all not for your own enjoyment….
